Urban Alchemy was a conference organized by Belfast City Council and the Arts Council of N.Ireland exploring The Transforming Power of Art and Architecture. It took place on the in the Waterfront Hall and St.George’s Market.
Themes included

  • Sharing new ideas and creating greater understanding of the power which architecture and art hold in shaping and re-energizing our environment
  • Defining the value that quality design and cultural activity bring to our cities
  • Discovering how art and architecture can improve the quality of urban living
  • 'Public engagement' in relation to art and architecture

Building initiative exhibited the ‘Yellow Space’ exhibition at St. George’s Market and made a presentation at the 'Public engagement' workshop on the day. Frank McDonald, Environment Editor for the Irish Times chaired the conference.
